| OUTLINE
JIP PROPOSAL - iWell Value Tool
1
Introduction & Objectives
Recently
a need has been widely expressed at many international conferences,
for a means of quantifying the added value of a remotely controlled
intelligent well completion. The absence of such a tool is
often seen as a barrier to implementation of this technology
and the realisation of the potential benefit it offers.
This
project will satisfy the need by a novel approach chosen to
provide a simple solution that can be delivered quickly, combining
–
·
the best available published
experience
·
the lessons already learned
by the project partners
·
expertise in smart well systems
analysis
-
transformed into a simple software tool that engineers in
operator companies can use without prior training.
The
benefits to operators and vendors, are –
·
confidence in the business case
·
an independent view of potential
implementation value
·
accelerated production, increased
recovery, and reduced intervention
·
wider use of the technology
and hence market scope
2
Deliverables
The
primary deliverable is the software itself, which will be
provided to each sponsor. This tool will estimate quantitatively
the potential benefit from implementing an intelligent well
rather than a conventional well in the same situation. It
will be self-contained, to run on a PC that has MS Excel.
The software will be designed to be simple and clear to use.
Input of all the required information will be through question-and-answer
dialogue boxes. Results will be clearly tabulated, with the
reasoning and assumptions, ready to cut-and-paste.

Expertise
In
addition to the requisite engineering and software expertise,
Proneta has specific, directly related experience of –
·
working on the engineering and
economic detail of intelligent well applications (through
risk analysis projects with operators and vendors);
·
running successful JIPs (with
4 sponsors and with 10 sponsors) on budget and on schedule;
·
successful on-schedule completion
of software-based projects (reliability risk analysis of
intelligent wells).
4 Timescale
Proneta
has resource available to start as soon as a contract is in
place. We expect to complete the project within 12 months,
including delivery of the software to the sponsors.
Preliminary
project planning meetings are scheduled for 19 February in
Houston, 25 February in Aberdeen, and 2/4 March in Brighton
– potential participants are welcome.
